TATA AIG MediCare Select – Health Insurance Waiting Periods (use as example)
Why You Must Buy Early
Many treatments like surgeries or chronic disease care are covered only after 2–3 years of continuous coverage. By buying young and healthy, you start your waiting clock early, so you’re covered when it matters.
⏳ Pre-Existing Diseases (PED)
Waiting Period: 3 Years
- Includes diseases like diabetes, asthma, thyroid, etc.
- Covered only after 36 months of continuous coverage.
- New coverage for increased Sum Insured starts a fresh wait.
- If porting from another insurer, old policy years might be counted.
⏳ Specified Diseases/Procedures
Waiting Period: 2 Years
- Applies to many common diseases and elective surgeries.
- Not applicable if treatment is due to an accident.
- If PED and Specific Disease overlap, longer wait applies.
